Chapter 13: Pursuers from the Underdark

That night.

Aelusdro was in bed with Marianne.

"Oh, are you going to sleep with me tonight?"

"Yes... Thank you for cooking dinner together with me."

"Well, you just helped me with my cooking, that's all."

Marianne always saw others as beneath her.

Aelusdro, who had entered this place, was no exception.

However, Aelusdro was a dark elf and her own homeland was a human supremacist nation, so she couldn't abandon Aelusdro.

"Still, I'm happy.

Just the fact that you accept me, a Dark elf, is enough."

"Aelusdro, why do you like me so much?"

"Because you were the first person I met on the surface..."

"Even though I'm just a human?"

Marianne said self-deprecatingly, but Aelusdro didn't lose his smile.

"In any form, you keep me by your side. That's the first happiness I've found."

"...Dark Elves are hated all over the world, and it seems that you are even more hated because you appear kind.”

"Hmm..."

A Dark elf of extraordinary goodness is detested not only by human society but also by the Dark elf society.

Naturally, there should be no place for them, and they are usually either killed or die of starvation.

Living a normal life like this is truly a miracle.

"You were really lucky. If it weren't for me, you would probably have been killed."

"Thank you, Marianne..."

"Be grateful to me, Ohohohohoho!!"

On the bed, Marianne laughed loudly.

At that moment, Aelusdro thought.

It was really good for him to be with Marianne...

"Well then, may tomorrow be a happy day. Goodnight, Aelusdro."

"Goodnight..."

Aelusdro and Marianne said that and closed their eyes.

Several hours later.

"Marianne-sama, are you there!?"

"!?"

A few hours after Aelusdro and Marianne had settled down to sleep, someone began knocking on the door forcefully.

Startled, Marianne sat up and opened the door.

"It's not Dyst, what's the matter!?"

"Undead creatures have appeared...

in the surrounding forests of the Nagal region!"

"What!?

Aelusdro, wake up!"

"Umm... I'm still..."

Marianne hurriedly shook Aelusdro awake and opened the door to assess the situation outside.

It was dark outside, the perfect time for the undead to be active.

"Everyone should be asleep by now.

Dyst, we will deal with these monsters.

You stay here and wait."

"Understood... Marianne-sama, please take care of yourselves."

"Hehe, I'll shoot lead bullets at these foolish ones who dare to defy me!"

"Undead creatures... I have a bad feeling about this..."

Armed with her twin pistols, Marianne, and with a sword and shield, Aelusdro, ventured into the forest.

"Wow..."

"I can't believe the forest has become like this..."

Due to the miasma's influence, the forest was filled with undead creatures emerging as if overflowing. Within the group of blackened trees, the undead clad in miasma appeared, baring their fangs at Aelusdro.

"Uguo!"

A Darkstalker took the initiative and attacked Aelusdro. Aelusdro firmly defended against the strike with his shield, but instantly received a counterattack, resulting in a severe injury.

"...Ugh."

Aelusdro drank a potion he had and healed his wounds.

"...Phew. It's time to counterattack! Round Slash!"

After drinking the potion, Aelusdro plunged into the horde of undead and struck them with his sword. Seizing the opportunity, the Darkstalker also attacked.

"Prepare yourself! Gatling Shot!"

Marianne fired her twin pistols rapidly, annihilating the group of undead that had suffered grave wounds.

"Ohoho! Don't you dare disappear before me!"

"But they’re already gone."

Marianne laughed triumphantly after defeating the horde of undead.

"Now, it's your turn to fall!"

Marianne once again raised her twin pistols and fired bullets at the Darkstalker. However, the Darkstalker narrowly evaded Marianne's bullets.

"What...!? Kyaaa!"

The Darkstalker caught Marianne off guard and attacked her, tearing her clothes and revealing her underwear.

"Marianne-san!"

"You've dared to damage my beautiful clothes. I will crush you completely!"

"Now, prepare yourself, undead!"

Marianne charged towards the Darkstalker, shooting wildly from point-blank range, turning it into a honeycomb. Her expression was filled with a menacing aura as her pride had been wounded by the undead.

While slightly taken aback by her state, Aelusdro watched over Marianne.

"Now, this will be the end! Rebellion!!"

Then, Marianne's bullet, enveloped in light, pierced through the Darkstalker, causing him to vanish.

"...Aelusdro, let's definitely resolve this anomaly."

"...Yes."

Trembling, Aelusdro nodded. He must not anger Marianne... That was what Aelusdro thought once again.

In the sight of Aelusdro and Marianne, who had defeated the undead, the forest had transformed into a poisonous and eerie black and purple landscape. Without a doubt, the enemy was within this place... Aelusdro and Marianne carefully surveyed their surroundings before entering the forest.

"For now, we need to investigate what has happened to this forest."

Aelusdro focused his mind and tried to examine the state of the forest. Then, information flowed into Aelusdro's head. The forest had changed its terrain, becoming a labyrinth forest, and in order to forcefully break through, they needed to carve a path to the center. If they launched an attack towards the center, a path would open up.

"Leave it to me, Dark Slash!"

Aelusdro unleashed a dark-imbued slash towards the center of the forest. As a result, the trees were toppled, successfully creating a path.

"Now, let's go!"

"Yes!"

Having opened a path and heading towards the central area where the enemies awaited, Aelusdro and the others were confronted by an army of undead led by a Dark elf cleric. Their numbers were considerable, but they couldn't turn back at this point. They had to quickly defeat them and move forward.

"You treacherous Dark Elves, be prepared!"

"I am... not a traitor!"

Aelusdro unsheathed his sword, and the battle began.

"Hah!"

"You won't succeed!"

Aelusdro intercepted the whip swung by the Dark elf cleric with his shield. Immediately after, a ghost went to attack him. He blocked and counterattacked, but his strike passed through the ghost.

"What!?"

"It seems that attacks without magical enhancements don't work. It's frustrating, but I can't defeat them... I'm counting on you!"

"Understood, Fire Slash!"

Aelusdro enveloped his sword in flames, mowing down the horde of ghosts and defeating them in a single strike.

"Gatling Shot!"

Marianne dashed into the group of ghouls and unleashed rapid gunfire from point-blank range with her twin pistols. Additionally, she aimed one shot at the abdomen of the Dark elf cleric.

"Tch! For a mere human, you're quite skilled! Undead, kill them!"

The Dark elf cleric commanded the undead to attack Marianne.

"That won't work against me."

With agile movements, Marianne dodged all the attacks from the undead and eliminated them with a barrage of dual pistol fire.

"This is the power of humans. Have you learned your lesson?"

"What did you say!? Tch... It seems... I have no choice but to retreat."

"Not so fast!"

Aelusdro pursued the retreating Dark elf cleric and slashed his back with his sword.

"What are you doing!"

"If you call me a traitor, then I shall kill you as a traitor. ...Isn't it the same? You can't judge a human, can you? Farewell, Dark elf."

And thus, Aelusdro's sword cleaved the Dark elf cleric in half.

"..."

As he wiped the blood off his sword, Aelusdro looked at the lifeless body of the Dark elf cleric. It was the first time he had killed a fellow member of his own race on the surface.

"...Will they still accept someone like me?"

"At the very least, I will accept you," Marianne said, lightly patting Aelusdro's lowered shoulder.

"It's quite normal for a villainess to ally with a Dark elf, you know? Don't worry about trivial things! I want to see your bright side!"

"...Marianne-san... That's true, isn't it?"

"You don't need to use polite language anymore, alright? You can talk to me normally from now on. Come on, let's shake hands!"

Those words were proof that Marianne had fully accepted Aelusdro. Aelusdro believed that she was not lying and tightly grasped her hand.

"Thank you... Thank you so much, Marianne... Please, never leave my side... forever!"

"Of course!"

When Aelusdro and Marianne reached the center of the forest, a massive hole appeared in the sky, and the "gate" was beginning to open. If they didn't close the gate by morning, the Nagal region would be doomed. Before the two of them realized the gravity of the situation, the Dark elf priests Bridget and Celina appeared.

"It seems you've come, treacherous Dark Elves."

"To join forces with humans... How foolish."

"I am not more foolish than you."

Saying so, Aelusdro pointed his sword at the two of them.

"Don't bother saying that..."

"We have the protection of Aranea-sama. Having lost the protection of Aranea-sama, you are nothing but dead!"

"I don't believe in gods. I only believe in myself!"

Marianne drew her twin pistols from her waist and took aim.

"...Hmph, so you have no faith... Well, it doesn't matter. Either way, you will die here."

"Sorry, but we have absolutely no intention of losing to the likes of you!!"

"Now, let's settle this!"

The battle with Bridget and Celina begins.
