Chapter 7: Messenger of Darkness

Meanwhile, in the Underdark, the Dark Elves were discussing the fate of Aelusdro, who had left the place.

"So, what should we do with Aelusdro?"

"Naturally, execute him."

"Agreed!"

"Agreed!"

Almost all the Dark Elves present in the room agreed on executing Aelusdro. This was mainly because a Dark elf with a good alignment had been born into the fourth branch of the Treen Machas family, posing a high risk of losing the favor of the goddess Aranea.

"Lady Aranea would never allow such a situation to be tolerated! If things continue like this, the Treen Machas family will be destroyed by the lower branches!"

"But..."

"But what? Traitors can only meet their end in 'death'!"

While Dark Elves consider betrayal as a virtue, they cannot tolerate their own acts of betrayal being revealed. For the survival of the Treen Machas family, Aelusdro's execution was deemed necessary.

"...And what will we do after the execution?"

"Of course, we will offer his corpse as a sacrifice to Lady Aranea. It will surely please her. That's all for today. Dismissed!"

Meanwhile, in the Nagal region…

"...The crops have been destroyed once again," Marianne lamented the damage to the crops.

It was likely the work of nocturnal monsters.

"Shall we go exterminate them?"

"No, it's not a good idea for humans to wander around at this hour, even if you are nocturnal," Marianne replied.

Surprisingly, Marianne showed concern for the residents. Despite being a villainess, she possessed a certain level of common sense. It was more akin to being a "likable young lady" rather than a villainess.

"I have a good idea. Please bring me a stone," Aelusdro said.

"A stone?"

"I can use magic…”

“well, it's quite rude to order me around! Go get it yourself!"

"...Fine."

Reluctantly, Aelusdro decided to get the stones himself. At that moment, he realized that this was just like a situation befitting a villainess.

"This should be enough," Aelusdro said.

Afterwards, after bringing together several stones, he arranged them in the cave and infused them with magic.

"What did you do?" Marianne asked.

"I cast a spell on the stones. Even if someone is asleep, they will notice if the stones are moved."

"I see... With this, we can identify the culprit."

"Don't worry, Marianne-san."

Later that night, after finishing dinner, Aelusdro noticed something and sat up. He took the sword and shield hanging on the wall and headed towards the spot where he had placed the stones.

"...Indeed, someone has come here," Aelusdro murmured. Thanks to the effect of the magic, he sensed that someone had moved the stones. The one who disturbed the crops must be the one who moved the stones. Aelusdro made up his mind and entered the cave alone.

"But it's so dark..." Aelusdro explored the dark cave without any light. The surroundings were pitch black, and if he didn't look carefully, he would bump into obstacles or be detected by monsters. Aelusdro concentrated his mind and sensed the presence of an enemy. However, he couldn't find the enemy.

"...They're not here. Where could they be...!?" At that moment, Aelusdro felt pain in his leg. As he prepared himself, wondering who had come, there was a zombie goblin archer right there. It had shot an arrow at Aelusdro from the darkness.

"Gh, an undead...!" Aelusdro quickly took up his sword and shield and attacked the goblin archer zombie. However, perhaps due to the pain in his leg, he couldn't deliver a successful blow.

"Guuuuaaaaah!" The goblin archer zombie launched a series of attacks, and Aelusdro ended up with severe life-threatening injuries.

"Ah, I'm sorry... Was it wrong for me to try to handle it alone...?" Aelusdro tried to let go of his consciousness.

"…Mmm."

At that time, Marianne couldn't fall asleep for some reason, so she got up.

"I can't sleep. I wonder why? I can't figure it out myself," she said, puzzled by the reason. Despite preparing to sleep properly, she just couldn't fall asleep.

"Oh well, I guess I'll go outside," Marianne said with resignation, leaving the cabin and stepping outside.

"It's calming, isn't it?" Once outside, Marianne bathed in the night breeze. The wind seemed pleasant to her, and she relaxed, enjoying it for a while.

"Oh...?" Suddenly, Marianne sensed someone's presence. She quickly took out her twin pistols from her waist. Entering the cave, she found Aelusdro collapsed, and a zombie goblin archer trying to shoot him.

"Aelusdro! What happened?" she asked.

"Run... away..." Aelusdro replied weakly.

"Run away? But what...!?" Marianne took another good look at the zombie goblin archer. While it lacked intelligence, it was attempting to deliver a final blow to the critically injured Aelusdro.

"This is dangerous!" Marianne intimidated the zombie goblin archer with her twin pistols.

"Come on, let's go!" she urged Aelusdro.

"Yes...!" Marianne managed to carry him on her back and hurriedly took him to the cabin.

"Are you alright, Aelusdro?"

"No..."

Marianne provided first aid to the badly injured Aelusdro. Fortunately, he wasn't in critical condition, but he needed to take a break from combat for a while. They couldn't deal with the crop-destroying monsters like this.

"What should we do...? Rudolf and Ellie are asleep... Oh, what should I do...!" Marianne felt at a loss.

"It can't be helped. We're not enough for this..." Reluctantly, Marianne decided to wake up the other warriors.

With a heavy heart, Marianne went to wake the others up.
