Chapter 6: Emma appears

Aelusdro and his companions, having defeated the group of Bugbears, safely returned to the Nagal region.

"...Phew. I never expected to be attacked by Bugbears."

"I told you, didn't I? You shouldn't go outside without my permission."

"I'm sorry..." Ellie apologized to Rudolf, feeling down.

"But thanks to all of you, we survived! We won because of the magic and guns we had."

"What about my sword and sorcery...?"

"Oh, my apologies. I had forgotten," Marianne chuckled, earning a cold look from Aelusdro.

"Now then, it's about time for lunch. Farna's cooking seems to be delicious..."

"Oh, you're all such good friends, aren't you?" As Aelusdro was about to go prepare lunch with Farna, a girl with black hair in three braids, giving off a noble air, appeared in front of them. A young monkey was perched on her shoulder, and Marianne made an unpleasant expression upon seeing the girl and the monkey.

"Nice to meet again, Miss Emma Craelsh of the Galba Empire's Craelsh family."

"Marianne-san? What's wrong?"

Aelusdro, not understanding what was happening, called out to Marianne.

"It's her! The one who stole my Prince Leve!"

"Oh my! 'Stole' is such a strong word. It's just a misunderstanding."

Emma replied to Marianne's accusation with a smile. Marianne instinctively pointed her gun at Emma, but Rudolf told her, "We shouldn't fight right now," and she put away her gun.

"Well, there's nothing I can do about it. I'm not one to engage in pointless fights. However, we will settle this, Emma!"

"Very well, goodbye then." With that, Emma left with a radiant smile that sparkled like jewels.

"Kyiii! How insolent! To not be shaken and keep smiling in front of me!"

(That's not something Marianne should be saying.)

Marianne, who had just met Emma, seemed quite irritated.

Aelusdro could tell just from that, that she held animosity towards Emma.

"It's no wonder the prince would fall for her. I don't see any flaws for now."

"I should be plenty beautiful as well. Yet, because of Emma...! Kyiiiiii!"

"Marianne, do you dislike that person, Emma?" Ellie asked with genuine curiosity.

To that, Rudolf replied, "She has her own circumstances."

"Well then, it's about time for Farna's lunch. We shouldn't be late."

"Yes."

"For today's lunch, we have pork pie, potato salad, and tea with hotcakes!"

Farna served lunch to the residents, including Aelusdro and his companions.

"Bon appétit!"

The residents enjoyed Farna's meal with delight. However, Marianne seemed somewhat gloomy.

"What's wrong, my lord? You look down."

"...I just met Emma earlier."

"Emma? Who's that?"

"Oh, she is..." Aelusdro explained to Farna about Emma.

"I see. If she's beautiful and has a good personality, it's no wonder the prince would fall for her."

"I'm plenty beautiful too! Yet, yet..."

"Well, well, don't give up just yet. It's only an engagement, not marriage. If you work hard, you can marry the prince too!"

"...Yes, you're right. Well, I'm not one to easily give up. There's no way I would lose to such a weak little girl! Ohohoho!"

With Farna's hearty attitude, Marianne regained her usual composure.

"Now, let's eat before the food gets cold!"

"Yes!"

After finishing their meal at Farna's, Aelusdro and the others were thinking about what to do next.

"Well, Marianne, do you have any plans?" Aelusdro asked.

"I don't have any particular plans... How about going hunting for dinner?" Marianne suggested.

"That's a good idea. Procuring food is important. Rudolf and Ellie, please wait for us," Aelusdro said.

"Okay."

"Understood."

Aelusdro and Marianne went outside to procure dinner. Rudolf and Ellie waited for them to return.

"But why does the Galba Empire despise non-human races to such an extent?" Rudolf pondered.

"I have no idea. I don't know much about it either," Ellie replied.

"That's true..."

*Scream*

At that moment, they heard a woman's scream from a distance. Rudolf and Ellie rushed towards the direction of the scream, where they found an elven woman being assaulted by imperial soldiers.

"You! Non-humans, get out! This is a human country!" one of the soldiers shouted.

"No... Please stop! I only want to work as a civil servant..." the woman pleaded.

It seemed that this woman had come to the Nagal region to work under Marianne. However, the Galba Empire was a human supremacist country, and non-human races were persecuted.

Rudolf felt a sense of urgency and wielded his staff.

"You should leave this place. Otherwise, I won't hesitate to use force," Rudolf warned.

"What! Non-humans dare to speak arrogantly!"

"Spirit of the wind, unleash an invisible impact! Wind Blast!"

Rudolf chanted the spell and swung his staff, causing a powerful gust of wind that blew away the imperial soldiers. Then, Rudolf sent out blades of wind, tearing the soldiers apart.

"Thank you."

"...Thank you very much," the elven woman expressed her gratitude to Rudolf. However, Rudolf, despite acting in self-defense, did not show a smile.

"I truly cannot forgive the imperial soldiers. But even if we massacre them, nothing will change. ...What should we do?" Rudolf pondered.

"Rudolf, don't dwell on such difficult matters. Look, Lord Aelusdro and Marianne will be back soon!" Ellie tried to cheer him up.

"Oh... That's right. Welcome back, Aelusdro and Marianne!" Rudolf waved his hand to greet Aelusdro and Marianne, who had returned after procuring food.

"We're back. This time we hunted a bear," Marianne said.

"Oh, Marianne, you're quite skilled," Rudolf commented.

"I'm not just good with handguns for nothing," Marianne replied, twirling her twin pistols before holstering them.

The Nagal region, located in the outskirts of the Galba Empire. In this peaceful land, a faint but visible shadow has begun to emerge—
