Chapter 6: I felt like I was having trouble breathing, so I put it in

Thus, I embarked on a journey to investigate the seal.

I found myself with a group of strangers I had never seen before.

The party was hastily formed, and there was no sense of camaraderie. The journey was utterly dull.

Nevertheless, we somehow managed to reach the castle where the seal of the Demon King was located.

"This is the Demon King's stronghold!" exclaimed one of the hero’s entourage, pointing at the castle with an air of superiority.

How irritating!

But this is indeed the Demon King's stronghold.

Wow, it's my first time seeing it.

"It looks quite dilapidated," I commented.

The stone castle was of considerable size but had cracks and missing pieces, giving it a rundown appearance.

"If not for the loss of the Demon King's power, it would have been splendid and magnificent," one of the entourage responded to my mutterings.

Tch, she heard me.

This girl keeps approaching me for some reason. Did she initially plan to switch sides to join me or something? It seems like she's keeping a close watch on me so I won't escape.

She's truly unpleasant.

"That being said, the Demon King's revival seems doubtful. The state of the castle suggests that the seal is still intact," spoke a gold-ranked adventurer.

I couldn't care less whether the seal is intact or not.

After all, it was not me who started talking about seals and such in the first place.

Anyway, as long as it doesn't get revealed that I dropped the hero into the hole, everything will be fine.

"However, it took quite a long time to get here. It's unexpected," continued the gold-ranked adventurer.

That's right. It was really far. We had to cross multiple mountains and rivers.

"Thanks to someone, right?" she added.

Gulp!

All eyes turned to me.

"Weren't you just a silver-ranked adventurer? Surprising that you managed to reach silver with that," the condescending entourage sarcastically remarked.

Well, there's no point in saying that.

My stamina is that of a mere copper-ranked adventurer. It's only natural for me to be slower than everyone else.

Becoming silver-ranked was also thanks to the power of the hole.

...Well, I also took my time walking because I didn't feel like going quickly.

"I didn't come here because I wanted to," I replied nonchalantly while picking my nose, causing the entourage’s face to turn bright red.

"You, you must have done something to …Yuuto, Yuuto..." she stammered.

Easy there.

But well, it wasn't me who did it, it was the hole, haha.

"I'll beat you to a pulp!!" she shouted.

I got scolded while grinning.

The gold-ranked adventurer who rushed in quickly intervened, and the entourage was restrained.

"That's the seal!" she exclaimed.

After walking a bit inside the castle, we arrived at a spacious area.

In the center, there was a magic circle-like design.

And right in the middle, a sword was pierced, giving off a clear "We sealed it here" vibe.

"I see, so that's the seal," said the gold-ranked adventurer, getting closer to the sword.

"Wait, don't approach it carelessly!" another gold-ranked adventurer stopped him.

Both the gold-ranked adventurer who approached and the one who stopped him were correct.

It's evident that the seal hasn't been broken, so there is no danger. It's necessary for adventurers to be cautious.

Furthermore, I think the one gold-ranked adventurer who quietly observed the situation also made the right choice.

After all, it's certain that someone created the hole that swallowed the hero.

By the way, our travel companions consists of four gold-ranked adventurers, me, and one of the hero's followers.

Yes, there's only one female follower that’s part of the hero’s entourage.

The one who kept meowing apparently left a note and disappeared upon returning to the village.

And the one who kept saying "Master, master" vanished during the journey.

I was immediately suspected when this "master" follower disappeared, but it's not like it's my fault.

Since she had something like a collar on, I sucked it into the hole, and she disappeared that same day.

I wonder why? I have absolutely no idea. It's beyond me.

"Hmm, seems like no problem,"

After conducting various investigations, it seems certain that the seal is still intact.

That's the assessment of the high-ranked adventurers, by the way.

I'm a magician, but I have no clue about these things.

Just because it looks pretty, I guess that's how it is.

"Well, let's go back."

"Yeah, let's."

Everyone prepared to return.

The investigation concluded. There's no point in staying here any longer.

However...

"Wait!"

Someone stopped us.

It's the follower. What a hassle.

"If the seal is intact, then who was it that dropped Yuuto into the hole?"

Yeah, that's right.

In the end, it's gotta be that.

"Well?"

I tilt my head.

Of course, I can't admit it.

If I were to say, "It was me," I'd be torn apart.

"Stop playing dumb! This person is the culprit!! Yuuto was dropped into the hole by this person!"

Even if you say that...

What evidence do you have?

I roll my eyes and shrug my shoulders.

"Giiii!!!"

The follower bared her teeth and lunged at me.

Eek! Violence alert!

I quickly hide behind the back of a high-ranked adventurer.

"Get out of the way!"

The follower and the high-ranked adventurer start grappling with each other.

What an ugly fight it has turned into.

"Stop it!"

The eldest gold-ranked adventurer raises his voice.

He's the most experienced and has led everyone here.

At his words, even the follower came to a halt.

"Our purpose this time is to investigate the revival of the Demon King. Regardless of whether it was the hole or not, it's none of our concern. This is just a dispute among adventurers."

Oh, a valid point.

The follower girl makes a face like she just swallowed a bitter pill.

Serves her right.

"But still..."

The follower girl mumbles something incoherent. However, it's quite clear that the high-ranked adventurer is in the right.

"Well then, even if I killed this person, it's just a dispute among adventurers, right? You all wouldn't be concerned, of course."

What!? Hold on a moment.

"No, that's not it. We're still in the middle of a mission. The completion of the mission comes with reporting the investigation results to the guild. We cannot overlook conflicts among comrades during that time!"

Wow, that's absolutely right.

The words of the veteran gold-ranked adventurer are irrefutable.

The follower girl could only glare at me with a fierce gaze.

"Ugh!"

Just when I thought it was resolved, a single gold-ranked adventurer let out a groan and collapsed, coughing up blood.

What? What happened?

Behind them stood another gold-ranked adventurer, tightly gripping a sword stained with blood.

What is this? What's going on?
