Chapter 9: Similar Beings are Drawn to Each Other

"Alton... Marianne-san...Rudolf... Ellie..."

Meanwhile, Aelusdro's injuries had not yet fully healed, and he continued to mutter the names of his comrades as if in delirium.

"Currently, Aelusdro-san is in this state. It would be good if he could return to the front lines..."

"Well, for now, does anyone have the ability to use healing magic?"

"Oh, I do!"

Upon Yumir's suggestion, Ellie volunteered and stood in front of Aelusdro, casting a healing spell.

"Do Ova De Shi!"

As Ellie waved her finger, light danced around Aelusdro's body.

Bathed in the light, Aelusdro's complexion seemed to improve slightly.

"Then, it's enough if he rests for another week."

"Isn't there more we can do?"

"Healing magic only accelerates metabolic functions and enhances healing power. Overdoing it is not good for the body."

It seems that recovery magic is not omnipotent.

Everyone believed in Aelusdro's recovery and waited for him.

"So, Marianne, you can use guns!"

Yumir looked at Marianne's twin pistols with sparkling eyes.

Due to Yumir's overt staring, Marianne questioned her with an arrogant attitude.

"Oh, why are you so fascinated by my guns?"

"Well, I’ve never seen weapons like these on this side."

"This side...?"

"Oh, it's for reasons on this side. You don't have to worry about it."

"I see."

As Yumir casually replied, Marianne responded coldly.

However, Yumir's gaze continued to be fixed on Marianne's weapon.

"So, Marianne, you're strengthening yourself to seek revenge on that Emma person?"

"She's the one who drove me to the border! Someday, I want to make her regret it!"

"Be careful not to become like her."

"Hmph, that's impossible for me."

Marianne said confidently.

Seeing her demeanor, Miro thought she might actually be able to get revenge on Emma...

"Hyahaha! Filth must be disinfected!"

"Oh, oh my?"

As Miro stepped outside, he saw a trio of rough-looking young men shouting while cleaning a cesspool.

"These guys are the Three Ramen Brothers: Shoyu, Tokotsu, and Misso. They may look like that, but they're really nice people."

"I see."

"Hyahaha! We don't need no stinkin' seeds!"

The Three Ramen Brothers shouted while tilling the fields.

Miro watched them engaging in such mischievous activities and said, "Looks like they're having fun."

"...Uuu..."

Meanwhile, Aelusdro was still unable to leave his bed. His injuries were healing, but they hadn't fully recovered yet, and it was still dangerous for him to move as he was in the post-illness phase.

"...What's the matter, Aelusdro?"

"Oh, Marianne, huh..."

The person who came to visit him was Marianne, the human who had first found him.

"...I might be attracted to you..."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"...Perhaps because you and I are similar..."

Aelusdro originally lived in the Underdark but was cast out of his homeland due to being a heretical Dark elf. Marianne, on the other hand, was of noble birth but was exiled to the frontier when her schemes were exposed.

Because they shared similar circumstances, they might be drawn to each other.

"Now that you mention it, that might be true. But do you desire revenge?"

"No, I don't."

"May you grow up healthy and strong."

After gazing at Aelusdro's face intently, Marianne left the cabin.

"...Thank you, Marianne..."

Feeling Marianne's kindness, Aelusdro fell into a deep sleep.

"...Ugh..."

Once again, Aelusdro was having a dream—his childhood memories from before he emerged from the Underdark.

"Where did you go, Aelusdro? I won't let you escape!"

Aelusdro, born with an inherent attribute of goodness, couldn't adapt to the corrupt society of the Dark Elves and fled. The other Dark Elves chased after him. The Dark Elves, who didn't tolerate traitors, intended to kill him once they found him.

"I don't want to be here anymore..."

Aelusdro huddled, hiding in a safe place. Whenever other Dark Elves pursued him, he would always find solace in this hiding spot. And as he continued to shrink in size until he no longer sensed any presence, a Dark elf with long silver hair—a man—approached. Aelusdro recognized that face.

"Alton...?"

Alton, the butler, the only one who truly understood him—a fellow Dark elf of goodness like himself. The lonely Aelusdro had developed a sort of dependency on Alton.

"Young master, were you here? Now, please return."

"I don't want to... If I'm found by the Dark Elves again, they'll kill me..."

"Please rest assured, young master. I will protect you without fail."

Alton embraced Aelusdro gently. Surrendering himself to that warmth, Aelusdro nestled against Alton's chest.

At that moment, in the normally windless Underdark, a gust of wind blew. A female Dark elf with sharp red eyes, gripping a rapier in her right hand, stood before Aelusdro.

"Sister... Kiara...!?"

Somewhere along the line, Alton had transformed into Kiara, and Aelusdro had returned to his present appearance. Aelusdro involuntarily stepped back, his face turning pale.

"I've found you, Aelusdro... Now, prepare to die!"

"N-No, please, nooooo!"

Aelusdro desperately tried to escape from Kiara. However, Kiara's speed was remarkable, and he needed to run with all his might to have any hope of evading her. Aelusdro ran desperately, just running for his life.

"If I can get in there... I can escape!"

Eventually, Aelusdro leaped into a small light within the darkness.

"Ha!"

At that moment, Aelusdro woke up, jumping out of bed. As he looked around, he realized he was inside a hut.

"...I had that dream again...about the Underdark."

Ever since Aelusdro escaped from the Underdark, he had been plagued by this recurring dream—a dream that seemed to punish his fugitive self.

"Aelusdro, what's the matter?"

Coming to his side was Marianne.

"...That dream again. I dreamt of the Underdark."

"My goodness! I thought you'd never wake up, and it's all because of that dream."

"I don't want to see this dream anymore... I just want to live normally!"

Tears welled up in Aelusdro's eyes. Marianne chuckled, but seeing his expression, she quickly changed her demeanor.

"Well, as much as I hate to admit it... I don't want to deal with something like this either."

Marianne tightly embraced Aelusdro, just like Alton had done to the young Aelusdro in the dream.

"Until your anxiety fades away, entrust yourself to me. Oh, and of course, you mustn't be late for breakfast, alright?"

"Yes, thank you..."

It seems that Aelusdro and Marianne's relationship has progressed considerably.
