Chapter 18: The Descent of the Goddess

The boy became the king, and peace descended upon the land.

It seemed like everything had been resolved... or so they thought.

However, the eyes of the goddess had already caught sight of further calamities yet to come.

It was the invasion of women by the children of King Elmich.

Yes, just like their parents, the king's children were equally perverted and constantly harassing women.

If left unchecked, the world would be filled with the genes of King Elmich.

Feeling a sense of crisis, the goddess decided to rewind time to before the boy became king, while preserving his accomplishments.

If only the power of the hole didn't exist, such a mistake would never have occurred.

That's what she believed.

----------

We arrived at the Demon King's stronghold, and something was amiss.

Moreover, it seemed like the Demon King was on the verge of revival.

"You humans have come――"

"Halt!"

I created a massive hole, swallowing the magic circle along with it.

Gogogogo.

And then, silence.

The Demon King never showed up again.

Man, this hole is amazing. With this, I could do anything.

"What...?"

"Did we... defeat him?"

"Was it you? No way..."

Everyone stared dumbfounded at the hole.

Yeah! I did it!!

"Thank you very much."

Someone appeared from the depths of the hole.

A beautiful woman with long golden hair, dressed in a white robe along with her followers.

She looked down on us with a self-important attitude, speaking with a condescending tone.

T-This person is the one from back then!!!

The woman who gave me the hole. I never expected her to appear again.

"You have done well in defeating the Demon King. Your achievements will be remembered."

The woman spoke to Rick and the others. Strangely, she turned her back to me.

No, it was me who defeated him...

Does this person have bad eyesight?

She even hit the staff I dropped.

However, something was off about Rick and the others' reactions. They were trembling and shaking their bodies in front of this clueless person.

"Could it be...?"

"You are Fortina-sama?"

Huh?

Fortina?

The supreme goddess who created this world?

"Yes, that's right. I am Fortina. My children, I have always been watching over all of you."

No way, seriously? Is this the real deal?

Fortina, with eyes full of compassion. On the other hand, Rick and the others are kneeling, their heads pressed against the ground.

Well, she is the supreme goddess, after all. It's only natural.

But somehow, it's not sitting right with me. Not only did she take credit for our achievements, but if she's a goddess, couldn't she have defeated the Demon King?

Showing up after everything's over and acting all high and mighty...

"My child, Jay, well done. Let me heal your wounds."

As Fortina waved her hand, Jay's injuries quickly closed up.

Wow, that's incredible.

As expected of a goddess.

Seems like her eyesight is bad, though. But she's definitely impressive.

However, on the other hand, Brandie's face is pale.

Well, he did stab his comrade with a sword. It's only natural he's feeling guilty.

"Brandie."

"Yes, yes."

Gone is his previous composure. Brandie, who Fortina addressed, is completely shrunk down.

Oh boy. Is divine retribution coming?

Poor guy.

But he brought it upon himself.

It would be nice if a lightning bolt struck him or something.

"This time, I will not hold you accountable for your sins. Instead, in accordance with their accomplishments, you shall treat them hospitably in your kingdom. That is the wish of me, their mother."

Fortina's words surprise me.

Huh! Brandie gets away with it!?

Hey, hey. Isn't that a bit too lenient?

If we don't put him in his place, he'll get carried away.

"I... I understand. I will deeply engrave your words in my heart, Fortina-sama. I will carry out this oracle, even if it costs me my life."

Brandie bowed his head repeatedly.

Well, well, lucky him. Hopefully, he learns his lesson and stops doing bad things.

"Young man!"

Fortina turned around and shouted at me.

Huh? What is it?

I can't hide my dissatisfaction. I'm aware of that.

I'm the one who contributed the most, yet I've been overlooked.

Well, I guess I'll receive hospitality from the kingdom as well.

But still, I can't accept it.

In reality, I'm the one who defeated the Demon King single-handedly.

I wonder if she'll give me something special.

Like an overwhelming amount of treasure or a mountain of beautiful women as far as the eye can see.

As I secretly wished for such things, I couldn't believe my ears at Fortina's next words.

"You have gone too far. I request that you return the power of the hole."

Suddenly, the story became a lot worse. It's not much better than "it was all a dream" endings.
