Chapter 16: Shuu

"..."

Rudolf and the others were inside the cabin, watching the sudden Shuu. Currently, due to the effects of the Sleep Mist cast by Rudolf, he’s down, emitting snores.

"Seriously, what's happening to this world that something like this occurs? Hey, Aelusdro."

"Yes?"

Miro called Aelusdro to show him the state of the Shuu.

"Hey, can you take a look at this guy?"

"Ah..."

Aelusdro stared intently at Shuu’s face, which was peacefully emitting snores.

"..."

"..."

"He's sleeping, isn't he?"

"Yep. He came attacking out of nowhere, so I did this. Killing him would be a waste, you know."

"However, the problem lies in what we should do next."

If we were to release Shuu here, the chances of him escaping are extremely high. Even if we keep him asleep, eventually someone will perceive him as a threat and there's a high possibility of him being killed.

That's why Miro wanted to ask Aelusdro about the treatment of Shuu.

"I can either recruit him as a new asset or leave him as he is. If it's the former, Marianne would be pleased, but whether the Shuu himself would be happy is uncertain. If it's the latter, we won't restrain Shuu, but as you said, it would be a loss of a valuable asset."

"Hmm... You're quite indecisive, aren't you?"

"Indecisive? Who are you referring to?"

"Oh, Marianne."

Interrupting their conversation, Marianne, their Lord, entered the scene.

"Who is this?"

"His name is Shuu. He's an assassin who serves Hyuu. He came to kill us under his orders, but he's currently asleep."

"An assassin? He seems like a promising asset. Let's hire him right away."

With a smirk on her face, Marianne raised her palm towards Shuu and then brought it down forcefully.

"..."

Shuu, who suddenly received a blow to the cheek, sat up with a disgruntled expression. Marianne, as usual, had a smile hiding something within her.

"Oh, good morning."

"Why did you wake me up? What do you plan to do to me?"

"It's already decided, isn't it? I will hire you."

"You, a human, hiring me? Sorry, but..."

Saying that, Shuu threw a smoke bomb inside the cabin. Aelusdro and the others coughed, unable to see Shuu anymore. And as the smoke dissipated, Shuu's figure vanished as well.

"Screams!"

"We've let a valuable asset escape!" Marianne lamented in frustration.

"What are we going to do, Marianne?"

"It's already decided, isn't it? We'll search for him!" Marianne declared.

"But today was supposed to be our day off..."

"No, we'll forfeit our day off! Now, everyone, quickly search for Shuu!" Marianne said, grabbing her twin pistols and leaving the cabin.

"...Marianne is truly greedy. Is this what they call the villainess?" Ellie murmured as she watched Marianne leave the cabin.

"Anyway, we need to go after her too."

"We found him!"

"Why did you leave us behind..."

"It's your fault for not following me! You know!"

Marianne maintained her arrogant and haughty attitude. Aelusdro thought, "She has her good points, but she really is a villainess."

"Now, how do we find Shuu?" Marianne pondered. It would be a challenging task to locate him after angering him. If he were to notice, he might escape. First, they needed to gather information in the Nagal region and filter out only the valuable ones.

"For now, let's try listening to what people have to say," Marianne suggested, approaching the residents to inquire about Shuu's whereabouts.

"The whereabouts of Shuu, you say?"

"Yes, we are searching for where he is."

Marianne immediately started gathering information. First, she described Shuu's characteristics to the residents and tried to find out where he might be.

"We have some good information here."

"Oh, I've also finished gathering information about him."

"Already!?"

Rudolf surprisingly had sharp intuition, so he was able to gather a lot of information quickly. However, not all of it was accurate. From here on, they needed to filter out the necessary information.

"Ugh, which ones are correct? I have no idea. Well, if it comes to this, we'll have to rely on our determination!" Miro tried to narrow down the information with determination. However, it didn't go well in her head, so Yumir and Aelusdro took over and narrowed down the information instead.

"Since Shuu was ordered by Hyuu, he won't go too far."

"Which means he is definitely somewhere in the Nagal region. Plus, he is a beastmen. He probably won't approach places with a lot of human-made objects."

"Well, in that case, a forest or a cave?"

"Probably the latter. Assassins tend to prefer dark places."

"I see, then we should go to a cave!"

In this way, the group selected and narrowed down the valuable information, focusing on Shuu's whereabouts. It was still at the level of clues, so they decided to go and search once they arrived there. From this point on, a bit of luck would be necessary.

"...Alright, I have a lead."

Led by Marianne, the group was searching for where Shuu might be.

"Shuu, who escaped from me... I will definitely catch him...!"

(Wasn't it Marianne who let him escape in the first place?)

"Wait, Shuu...!"

Meanwhile, Shuu walked through the cave, defeating monsters along the way. Dead monster carcasses lay scattered around him, and his daggers were stained with blood.

"...That takes care of them. I should return to Lord Hyuu."

As Shuu defeated the monsters and prepared to return to his master, a girl's voice reached him from behind.

"Oh, who's there?"

"Who are you?"

Shuu spoke while pointing his daggers towards the source of the voice, revealing a girl with black hair braided into three strands standing there.
