This is a short yet powerful story of a certain dark elf swordsman and his companions.
In the underground city of Arcadia, where the dark elves reside..."Ugh!"
Jilvsara, the head of the Treen Machas family of dark elves, squatted in pain, clutching her abdomen.
"What's the matter, Lady Jilvsara?"
"I... I'm giving birth to a new child... Ugh!"
The pain intensifies, possibly due to labor contractions.
Because of that, Jilvsara couldn't move.
Unbeknownst to her, her biological daughter, Kiara, approached stealthily from behind.
"...It's born!"
And so, Jilvsara gave birth to her fourth child.
The newborn child is a cute baby boy with a red right eye and a purple left eye.
"W-What... a boy..."
In dark elven society, males hold a lower position.
Jilvsara wanted to make her child a priest but couldn't, leaving her with a frustrated expression.
"It can't be helped... I shall name him... Aelusdro!"
The name she gave her son, " Aelusdro," means "abandoned life" in the dark elven language.
In other words, Jilvsara does not consider Aelusdro as her son.
"Ugh... Haah..."
Then, just after giving birth, when she was weak, Jilvsara was pierced from behind by a dagger wielded by her eldest daughter, Kiara.
It was then that Jilvsara collapsed and breathed her last.
"Hmph... Indeed, he is a male and cannot become a priest.
However, he seems to be of use; I will keep him alive for my benefit...!"
And so, when Aelusdro turned 10 years old, he found himself in a room with a chained orc.
"Now, take the rapier," commanded Kiara, who had become the head of the Treen Machas family.
She handed Aelusdro the rapier.
"That orc is a foolish being who dared to defy us.
Therefore, you shall kill it with your own hands."
"K-Kill...?"
Upon hearing the word "kill," Aelusdro trembled slightly.
"What's the matter? Why haven't you killed it yet?"
"I... I..."
Aelusdro’s hand gripping the rapier trembled. It seemed he hesitated to kill the orc before him.
"Enough of this, how infuriating!"
Angered by what she saw, Kiara snatched the rapier from Aelusdro.
"Why won't you kill?! It is the right of us dark elves to kill foolish slaves!"
"Right...?"
"Hey! You there! Confirm this man's attribute!"
"Yes, Lady Kiara."
As instructed by Kiara, a dark elven swordsman checked Aelusdro’s attribute.
In an instant, the dark elven swordsman's face turned pale.
"He... He is one of the dreaded 'good' souls, even among the dark elves."
"What!? Kill this man!"
"However..."
"Traitors must die. That is the law of the dark elves."
Saying so, Kiara poised her dagger and pressed it against Aelusdro’s throat.
(...This is bad!)
Then, the dark elven swordsman scooped up Aelusdro’s and fled.
"Wait!"
Kiara chased after the dark elven swordsman, but their figure vanished in an instant.
"Aelusdro-sama..."
"W-What...?"
"Aelusdro-sama possesses a kind heart. If you stay here, you will be killed as a traitor. Please escape with me..."
"You... Who are you?"
"I am Alton, a butler serving the Treen Machas family. Your elder sister, among the avaricious dark elves, is especially greedy and became the head by killing your mother."
To think that his own sister was such a person. Upon hearing that, Aelusdro tightly grasped onto Alton's sleeve in fear. That was not something a typical dark elf would do.
"This place is hell for you, Aelusdro-sama. Please escape as soon as possible..."
"..."
While being held by Alton, Aelusdro tried to fall asleep. That's when it happened.
"Gigiii!"
Presumably urged on by his sister, a large horde of goblins attacked.
"G-Goblins...!"
"Aelusdro-sama, please step back. I will handle them!"
Gently placing Aelusdro down, Alton readied his longsword and entered a combat stance.
"Aelusdro-sama, please escape while I handle this."
"But..."
"It's alright. I will protect you until the end. Now, please run!"
"Okay..."
With Alton seeing him off, Aelusdro dashed through the underground city. Tears streamed from his eyes.
"Gigii!"
The goblins, brandishing their shortswords, lunged at Alton, but he evaded their attacks and struck them with his sword. Alton readjusted his stance and forcefully mowed down the horde of goblins.
"I will protect Aelusdro-sama. I won't let goblins like this slow me down!"
Dodging the goblins' assaults, Alton counterattacked with his sword. He pierced a goblin with his blade, then used it as a foothold to leap into the air, cleaving through the remaining goblins. Once he confirmed that the surrounding goblins were gone, Alton sheathed his sword.
"Aelusdro-sama, it's safe now. I will catch up with you later!"
Just as Alton was about to catch up to Aelusdro, it happened.
"I've finally found you, Alton... No, traitor of our clan!"
"Miss Kiara...!"
Aelusdro's sister, Kiara, arrived, chasing after Alton.
"Where is Aelusdro?"
Kiara asked Alton about Aelusdro's whereabouts, but he remained silent.
"Where is he?"
"..."
"You won't speak?"
"..."
Growing impatient with Alton's silence, Kiara drew her shortsword but quickly regained her composure.
"Well, fine. I can see through your thoughts. First, I'll kill you, and then we'll find him."
As Kiara began chanting an incantation, a multitude of trolls surrounded Alton.
